Rear Spars (page 1)

Started December 24, 2003

The construction of the rear spars is very similar to the main spars.  The rear spars are the same length and are made up from "C" channel spar webs of .032 2024 T3 aluminum with capstrips riveted top and bottom on the front and aft sides.  On the rear spars, the capstrips are 1/8" X 3/4" aluminum (6061 T6) bar that runs the full length of the spar web.

My father-in-law, Lonnie was here for Christmas, so he went to work cutting out the wing mounting plates and spacer pieces using the bandsaw:

Lonnie also cut and drilled all of the rib spacer bars while he was here.

Once the mounting plates were ready, they were drilled to the spar web and the capstrips were properly located per the plans:

Once the capstrips were drilled to the spar web, the holes were all enlarged to #30 for the -4 rivets called out in the plans:

The holes for the wing mounting plate were opened up to #21 for the -5 rivets called out in the plans.
