Window Latch

The latch for window frame is also very simple yet effective.  It starts with a bushing in the bottom window frame:

After welding, The bushing is tapped to 5/16" x 24 TPI.

The window latch is threaded piece with a hook on the inside to pull it shut and a lever on the outside to open it and which also serves as a handy way to latch it to the wing when in the open position.  To make the latch, I started with a 5/16" x 24 TPI bolt.  A groove was cut in the head of the bolt to accept a piece of 1/4" rod to act as the lever.

Here is the lever being test fit to the bolt head:

It was welded to the bolt being sure to maintain a 90 degree angle.

Now for the hook portion of the latch.  To make the hook, I just heated some 1/4" rod and bend it around a piece of 3/4" tube:

Here it is after bending:

The hook was cut to length with one end about 1 5/8" long and the other about 5/8" long.

A 5/6 x 24TPI nut was then welded onto the longer end of the hook.

The parts were all shaped and smoothed out.  As you can see, the latch part was rounded off and smoothed to be a little more streamline since it will be out in the wind.
